UFO AT JFK AIRPORT

Okay, so I'm leaving work in the wee hours of the morning and as I'm waiting for my good ole MTA couch I notice how incredible the sky looks all light up by a pretty bright moon.

So I do my thing and start shooting away.

I noticed an object on my phone's screen but dismissed it as a lens flare and just kept shooting.

Now when I reviewed my shots on the bus ride home, I noticed 3 images of a circular light that I couldn't explain. The first thing that popped into my head was it's a lens flare or reflected light but I didn't remember seeing a light source that looked like this disk of light.

Of course it was immediately posted to Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. I was curious to see the reaction and fully expected one of my fellow photography friends to tell me "stop playing around you know what that is" but nope, nothing.

Now I'm pretty open minded, I love science and science fiction, I believe that mathematically we can't be alone in the universe BUT I'm also about 87% sure the images below can be logically explained. I mean really we've been conditioned to expect that, I don't think we could handle anything else. So here goes, below are the shots I took yesterday including the 3 in question.

This is the 1st shot I took, nothing out of the ordinary here.

But as I shot more, this strange circle of light appeared in my shots.

You can see below in this shot also.

This is actually the last shot I took before getting on the bus and I was oblivious to what I had captured.

I did some Google "research" to see what other lens flared UFO sighting shots looked like and didn't see anything like this.

I've been shooting for more than 20 years and know points of light can and do create interesting illusions. I've purposely used lens flares in some of my shots to pump up the drama but I've never seen anything like this.

Let me say now, that none of these images have been manipulated in any way. They are the shots taken with my HTC phone camera.

So below you can see an example of the reflected light I mentioned. It's a reverse reflection so imagine the reflection of a mountain with a cabin on the left of it in a lake. The reflection in the lake would also have the cabin on the left but with this light/lens reflection the cabin would be on the RIGHT.

Look at the image below and track the original source light to its reversed reflection.

  • The Red line is the axis upon which the light is reflected
  • The Green line is just green because of overlapping lines.
  • The White lines track back to the source.
If you looked at the image without the connections, you probably would assume they're stars, planes or simply ignored them but now you see that they are reflected through the camera lens.

This seems to be the MOST logical and probable explanation but getting back to my 87% confidence level, it still leaves 13% unexplained SO let me leave YOU with this:

  1. I did NOT see a source of light that resembled that circle reflection. IF it is a reflection where is the source, where is the 6 if the image is a 6a? If you look at this image an NBC reporter mistook for a UFO you can CLEARLY see the source and its reflection.
  2. The shot below was taken at a similar angle and location yet no UFO. What happened to the source light?
This blog may be premature since I haven't had a chance to go back to the spot and try to recreate the effect but that is my next move. Check back next week for my results.
